Who we are
Waterleftfrog Publications is a creative collective rooted in music, writing, and visual art—dedicated to the honest work of making things that resonate and last. Founded with a deep respect for self-driven creativity, waterleftfrog is home to songwriter Miles Closer, rock trio The Daniels, writer Moss Henson, and visual artist Story Meredith.
At the heart of waterleftfrog is music that feels lived-in and real. Miles Closer writes and records solo acoustic songs shaped by 1970s folk-rock influences—Wilco, Neil Young, Dylan. His records carry a sepia-toned, stripped-back feel, aiming for atmosphere over polish. The Daniels, led by Rob, Aaron, and Mark Daniels, lean heavier—blending 1990s alternative rock energy with psychedelic Beatles textures, Rush’s precision, and Muse’s layered sound. Both projects capture that balance between structure and looseness, recorded primarily using Logic Pro and a wide mix of vintage and modern gear.
Waterleftfrog is also about the written word. Moss Henson handles the storytelling side—writing short stories, novellas, and blog posts that echo the voices of CD Wright, Mark Twain, Raymond Carver, and Michael Ondaatje. Moss also manages the behind-the-scenes work that keeps waterleftfrog moving: archiving, editing, organizing.
Visually, Story Meredith gives waterleftfrog its shape and color. From web design and letterhead to album covers and hand-drawn elements, Story’s work blends folk art honesty with modern tools like Krita and Hipstamatic, inspired by Picasso, Miles Davis, and long afternoons at the St. Louis Art Museum.
A key element of waterleftfrog is preserving the music of the region. As an audio archivist project, waterleftfrog is dedicated to capturing and safeguarding the sounds, stories, and recordings that define the Midwest’s musical landscape. Forgotten tapes, rare performances, live archives—all carefully documented so the voices of past and present artists aren’t lost to time.
At the same time, waterleftfrog isn’t just about preserving the past—it’s about building on it. Through new music from Miles Closer and The Daniels, fresh writing from Moss Henson, and bold visual work from Story Meredith, the roster of artists keeps pushing forward. Every song, story, and image becomes part of a larger conversation: honoring what’s come before while creating something new for now and for whatever’s next.F
At its core, waterleftfrog is about creating music that lingers, stories that leave a mark, and visuals that provoke thought. It’s a reflection of lives spent writing, recording, building, and reimagining—always with an unwavering commitment to authenticity and craft. Creativity isn’t just a side project here. It’s a way of living.
